What Is an Eco-Certified Resort?
An eco-certified resort meets a published environmental standard checked by an outside program. You have more to go on than a property’s own green claims. However, the credentials differ: Florida Green Lodging awards a designation, while EarthCheck provides sustainability certification for tourism businesses.
The Florida Green Lodging Program is voluntary, started by Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection in 2004. Properties complete assessments and implement practices covering communication and education, waste reduction and recycling, water conservation, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality. Qualification requires 212 points, and the Palm level rises with the score, from One Palm to Four Palm at 718 or more.
Designations last three years, with annual waste, water and energy reporting. The state conducts random visits and removes properties leaving problems unresolved.
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) recognizes the EarthCheck Company Standard for hotels. Its experts reviewed the standard and found it equivalent to the GSTC Criteria.
Eco-Friendly Resorts in Orlando
You can choose among three timeshares in the Orlando area with Florida Green Lodging designations, including two at the Four Palm level. They sit in Orlando, Kissimmee and Lake Buena Vista. Moreover, the accommodations offer different layouts, so you can match your stay to your travel group.

Sheraton Vistana Resort Villas is a Sheraton Vacation Club resort in Lake Buena Vista, Orlando, with a Three Palm designation. Marriott’s resort page also identifies electric car charging. The one- and two-bedroom villas have full kitchens or kitchenettes, plus separate living and dining areas.

Club Wyndham Palm-Aire holds a Three Palm designation in North Pompano Beach, between Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale. You can choose a studio suite with a kitchenette or a one- or two-bedroom condo with a full kitchen. So, consider how much cooking you’d like to do during your stay.
Outdoor pools, tennis, a hot tub and a fitness center give you several ways to spend your day. Children have their own pool, miniature golf, a game room and a playground. Moreover, families can join the Play Days activities program together.

In July 2025, El Cid Resorts announced EarthCheck Silver certification, reporting results for Ventus Ha’ alongside Marina El Cid and Ventus. El Cid says the certification process began in 2022. Its stated practices include solar cells on all buildings, water-saving systems and an extensive mangrove conservation area.
Moreover, its biowaste separation program involves Crococun Zoo and Puerto Morelos’s agricultural sector. You can consider All-Inclusive and Platinum All-Inclusive plans, so confirm which plan applies to your stay. Room choices include Junior Suites, Family Rooms and Luxury King rooms with a bathtub. El Cocay Spa, a kids’ club and a fitness center offer options during your visit.
