Westgate's Legacy Program vs. the Resale Market

Westgate runs its own exit program, the Legacy Program, for owners who want to give their ownership back. It’s only available to qualifying accounts, so many owners check it first and turn to the resale market if they don’t qualify or would rather choose their own buyer. Here’s how the two compare:

Westgate's Legacy Program Selling on the Resale Market
Who It's For Qualifying Westgate accounts. Westgate decides who's eligible. Westgate owners who want to transfer their ownership to a buyer.
What Happens to Your Ownership It goes back to Westgate. A buyer purchases it and takes over the ownership and its fees.
Who Sets the Terms Westgate You. You choose your asking price and which offer to accept.
How To Start Reach out to Westgate and ask about the Legacy Program. Fill out the form above or call us at 1-800-610-2734.

What Westgate Buyers Look For

Westgate ownerships are tied to specific resorts, from Westgate Lakes and Westgate Town Center in Orlando to Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort in Gatlinburg and Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.

Your asking price is up to you, but you don’t need to go in with no context. Our representatives can help you find the average advertised price for comparable Westgate ownerships. You can revise your price any time.

When buyers compare Westgate ads, they focus on a few details:

The resort and its location.

Buyers looking for Orlando theme park trips, Smoky Mountain cabins, or a Las Vegas getaway each search differently.

Your week.

Westgate offers week-based ownership, and buyers want to know exactly which week they're getting, whether it's fixed or floating, and which exchange options come with it, like Westgate Club Weeks or Interval International.

Season and unit size.

Holiday and summer weeks, and units that fit a whole family, tend to draw more interest.

Selling Your Westgate Timeshare, Step by Step

Step 1: Gather Your Ownership Details.

Share your resort, week number, unit size, and season. Your Westgate owner statement usually has what you need, and a representative can help fill in any gaps.

Step 2: Launch Your Ad.

We build an ad around what makes your resort appealing and promote it on our marketplace and across our marketing channels, where our network of partnered investors and real estate brokerages can see it too.

Step 3: Review Your Offers.

Each offer comes to you to accept, counter, or decline. Once you agree on one, we can refer you to our Recommended Resale Brokerage, Fidelity Real Estate, to prepare the contracts and manage closing. Using Fidelity is your choice.

Step 4: Transfer Your Ownership.

Before the sale can close, Westgate gets a chance to review it. Westgate has a right of first refusal, which means it can choose to buy your ownership itself on the same terms you accepted. If Westgate passes, the sale moves ahead with your buyer. If it steps in, Westgate becomes the buyer and you still receive the agreed price. A title company then records the new owner with the county and with Westgate. Keep paying your fees until Westgate’s records show the transfer is complete.

Selling Westgate Timeshare: Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely. Whether you bought from Westgate or from another owner, your deeded week can be advertised for sale. Tell us your resort and week, and we’ll build an ad around it.

Westgate doesn’t advertise a buyback, but its Legacy Program offers an exit option for qualifying accounts. Call Westgate to ask whether yours qualifies. If your ownership doesn’t qualify, or you’d like to choose your own buyer and price, selling on the resale market is your next step.

Resale owners don’t always get every perk available to people who buy from Westgate directly, and timeshares generally don’t hold their original purchase price. That’s why resale prices sit below Westgate’s. To see where your week lands, read our guide to Westgate timeshare resale value, or fill out our What Is My Timeshare Worth? form for the average asking price of similar weeks.

You can still advertise your week. A loan or past-due fees add steps before closing, and a representative can walk you through them. What we don’t recommend is simply stopping payments. Missed payments can lead to collections and even foreclosure, which can hurt your credit.

Yes. If you’re not ready to sell, you can rent out your Westgate week through Timeshares Only. Our Rental Specialists can advertise your Westgate rental to travelers looking for stays in Orlando, Gatlinburg, Las Vegas, and more, and the rental income can help cover your yearly fees. You can even keep a rental ad running while your ownership is for sale.
