Best Coastal Beaches to Visit in July
Clearwater Beach, Clearwater, Florida: Best All Around Beaches to Visit in July

Like other beaches on the west coast of Florida, Clearwater Beach lives up to its name with crystal-clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Ironically, though, what makes this Gulf Coast beach special isn’t the clear water, but the sand! The sand at Clearwater Beach is made of pure quartz crystals, giving it a soft texture, cool feel, and pure-white appearance found nowhere else. It’s perfect for lounging, sunbathing, and building sandcastles. However, more active beachgoers will also find plenty of ways to get their blood and adrenaline pumping, including parasailing, jet skiing, and banana boat rides.
Clearwater Beach is regularly ranked among America’s best beaches. In fact, in 2019, TripAdvisor ranked Clearwater Beach the best beach in the U.S. and the sixth-best in the world. So it should go without saying that the beach is the star attraction in town. However, Clearwater boasts plenty of other fun things to do off the beach, too. From family-friendly attractions like the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and Captain Memo’s Pirate Cruise to outdoor recreation like kayak tours and bike tours, to lively summer events like the St. Pete Pier Run and the 4th of July Picnic in the Park, Clearwater is more than just a beach town; it’s a world-class vacation destination!

Cherry Grove Beach, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina: Best Beaches to Visit in July to Escape the Crowds

Located at the northernmost tip of Myrtle Beach’s famous Grand Strand, Cherry Grove Beach offers a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of the tourist hotspots. Known for soft, expansive sands, gentle waves, cleanliness, and a family-friendly atmosphere, it’s one of the best South Carolina beaches to visit in July. In fact, HomeToGo recently ranked it the number 2 beach in America, making it the only South Carolina beach to break the top 10. While you’re there, be sure to check out the famous Cherry Grove Pier, offering breathtaking photo opportunities and world-class fishing. More active beachgoers will also love Aloha Watersports, serving Cherry Grove Beach with a range of watersports rentals.
While the neighborhood of Cherry Grove is hidden away from Myrtle Beach’s big attractions like Broadway at the Beach and the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade, you’ll find plenty of other fun things to do in town. Need a pick-me-up before you hit the beach? Stop by Be Known Coffee, a cozy, hidden gem known for expertly crafted coffee and friendly service, for an easy energy boost. Afterwards, wind down with a craft beer at Salty Brews, a local favorite where you can also sample a wide selection of light bites, wine, and mimosas. Ocean City Beach, Ocean City, Maryland: Best Beaches to Visit in July for Kitschy Charm

Stroll the Ocean City Boardwalk, named America’s best boardwalk by The Travel Channel, for fresh seafood and family-friendly attractions like Ripley’s Believe it or Not and the Jolly Roger Amusement Park. Or, head to the nearby Ocean Downs Casino to catch a harness race, a unique kind of horse race where drivers are pulled in two-wheel carts called sulkies.
Ocean City Beach itself isn’t a single beach, but multiple beach districts spanning 10 miles of coastline. Depending on what you’re looking for, different Ocean City beach districts may be more or less well suited to your needs. For example, the Historic Downtown district offers a lively atmosphere perfect for couples and friend groups. If you’re looking for something quieter and more family-friendly, head to the Midtown district.

Kill Devil Hills Beach, Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina: Best Beaches to Visit in July for History Buffs

Located in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, Kill Devil Hills Beach boasts 11 miles of soft, spacious sands and nearly 30 access points with everything from picnic pavilions to hiking trails to playgrounds. The surf here is some of the best on the east coast, although be sure to pay attention to rip-current warnings. But Kill Devil Hills’ biggest claim to fame is as the site of the Wright brothers’ first flight. Don’t miss the Wright Brothers National Memorial, where you can learn about how these sibling inventors defied expectations, and gravity, with their Wright Flyer, a life-size replica of which can be seen in the Visitor Center.
Another unique feature of Kill Devil Hills Beach is that you can drive on it! Drivers with a valid license and 4-wheel drive can cruise the sands at the suggested speed limit of 15 mph. You must obtain a permit from the Kill Devil Hills Town Hall or the Stop N Shop on Virginia Dare Trail to drive on the beach. Beach driving is permitted from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset, and drivers are expected to obey normal road rules, e.g., passing on the left, yielding to pedestrians, and wearing seatbelts. The sand dunes are off limits to drivers.
