Great Places for Family Vacations: Orlando, FL

When it comes to theme parks, Orlando is the GOAT. From powerhouses like Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando to places like SeaWorld and LEGOLAND Florida, you could spend weeks experiencing the various kid-friendly rides and attractions the City Beautiful has to offer. However, when it comes to family-friendly activities, there’s a lot more to Orlando than just theme parks.
For families with little kids, The Crayola Experience is a colorful experience that’s light on the wallet but heavy on the fun. Kids can learn about the history of Crayola, see how crayons are made, and make their own crafty souvenirs. Seriously, you’re going to need a second fridge to hold all of the art that’ll come out of this trip.
If your kid is curious about the world around them, why not visit Orlando’s premier science museum? The Orlando Science Center lets visitors dive into the world of science with hands-on exhibits and kid-friendly activities. Kids can dig for fossils, get up close and personal with rainforest animals, and experience the power of a hurricane firsthand!
Kid-Friendly Disney Magic
Walt Disney World is the family vacation destination, so it comes as no surprise that it offers some extra pixie dust for younger kids. In fact, there are many things you can only do with a young child. There are even things you wouldn’t expect to be able to do at Disney, like… get a haircut?
Yes, Disney has a barber shop inside the Magic Kingdom. Harmony Barbershop will cut anyone’s hair with a reservation, but their specialty is giving kids their first-ever haircuts. Cast Members in old-timey costumes will trim your toddler’s tresses in a quiet, whimsical environment before giving you a certificate and your little one a commemorative set of mouse ears. Seats are limited, so you’ll want to book a reservation in advance.
Another fun perk for younger kids in Disney is the ability to dress up! Older guests can’t wear full costumes (so as not to be mistaken for Cast Members or characters) but young kids can go all out with the cosplay. Princesses are a common sight, as are Jedi, pirates, and superheroes. Some kids even dress up as Cast Members, complete with name tag!
Kids ages 3-12 who want the ultimate makeover experience should visit the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Fantasyland. Here, Fairy Godmothers-in-Training will give your child a Cinderella-style makeover. The Fairy Tale Package includes a themed shirt, sash, and bag, as well as hair, makeup, and nail polish. The Kingdom Package is the signature experience and includes a princess gown and accessories in addition to the Fairy Tale makeover. The Adventure Package includes an armor-inspired shirt, a sword and shield, and hairstyling to make your child look like a dashing hero! If you’re lucky, the Fairy Godmother herself might come to add some magic to the proceedings!
Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows: A Great Place for Family Vacations

‘Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. The spirit of ‘ohana runs through Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, with amenities designed to keep the whole family happy. Also, with easy access to the Magic Kingdom, it’s easy to bring the kids back to the villa for a nap.
Villas at the Polynesian are built for families, with multiple bedrooms and spacious living areas. They come with fully equipped kitchens, so you can satisfy picky eaters and pack snacks for your park day. There’s also a washer and dryer to handle any spills, or to help you save bag space.
There’s no shortage of fun to be had at the Polynesian. The Lava Pool and Moana’s Voyage splash area are a great way to cool off after a hot day. You can also take hula dancing lessons, or just watch the fireworks from the shore. Adults will love the zero-entry Cove Pool, as well as getting a drink at Trader Sam’s. It’s the perfect tropical oasis for your Disney vacation.
Great Places for Family Vacations: Paradise Island, Bahamas

Paradise Island is home to Atlantis, one of the largest resort complexes in the Caribbean. While it’s perfect for a family beach vacation, this resort offers a lot more than just the beach. No matter the age group, guests are bound to find something they love.
The centerpiece of the Atlantis resort is the Aquaventure water park. This 141-acre complex features five miles of white sand beach, more than 20 distinct swimming areas, and some of the coolest waterslides in the world. The highlight is the Leap of Faith: a 60-foot slide that sends riders plunging through an underwater tunnel.
Welcome to the Club
Atlantis is also home to one of the best kids’ clubs in the world: Atlantis Kids Adventures. Little kids can play in one of four themed areas, from a Victorian dollhouse to a wizard-themed lounge. Older kids can try their hands at cooking, put on a show, or play the latest video games. Special events allow guests to play with dolphins, meet mermaids, and play in clouds of kid-safe foam.
For guests ages 13-17, the CRUSH Nightclub is the perfect hangout spot. There’s a dance floor with a live DJ, a floor-to-ceiling “gaming tree” with 24 consoles, and a refreshment stand that serves non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. It’s the perfect place for teens to hang out while older members of your party hit the bars and casino.
Family Beach Vacations at Harborside Resort

Harborside Resort at Atlantis is a Marriott timeshare featuring residential-style accommodations. Choose between a one, two, or three-bedroom villa with harbor views and full kitchens. Rooms come with water park access, complimentary reusable water bottles, and shuttle service around the island.
Harborside is right next to the Atlantis Marina, your gateway to the rest of the Bahamas. While there’s a truly staggering amount of things to do at Atlantis, it’s easy to hop over to Grand Bahama for a day trip, or to charter a ship for even more adventures. Or you can walk to the Marina Village for shopping and dining in a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. Best of all, you can save hundreds of dollars by renting a villa through Timeshares Only!
Great Places for Family Vacations: Wisconsin Dells, WI

Wisconsin Dells advertises itself as the water park capital of the world, and they aren’t lying! This town has more water parks per capita than anywhere else in the world, and a bunch of other fun family activities. It’s one of the best places in the country to make a splash!
One of the best attractions in the area is Mt. Olympus, the largest water and theme park in the Dells. Mt. Olympus offers both indoor and outdoor attractions, making it a great place for family vacations in any season. One of the highlights is Medusa’s Slidewheel, which combines the chaos of a waterslide with the thrills of a Ferris wheel. You’ll plunge through twisting tunnels that seem to defy gravity as the colorful surroundings play with your senses. Which way is up? In here, that’s all a matter of perspective!
A Tale of Two Wizards
Wisconsin Dells is home to not one, but TWO attractions that let kids live out their spellcasting fantasies. Both attractions offer a family-friendly fantasy adventure and feature themed, fairy-tale environments. However, they’re aimed at different age groups.
MagiQuest and ShadowQuest at Great Wolf Lodge is a magical playgrounds aimed at younger children, though they have a cult following among adults. Guests collect magical runes by completing quests before using their magical powers to save the realm from peril. You’ll need a magic wand to play, either rented or purchased from the gift shop. Buying a wand lets you unlock additional powers and carry your progress between MagiQuest locations.
Wizard Quest is a locally owned, one-of-a-kind experience. This is no mere playground either: it’s a 30,000 sq ft labyrinth filled with secret passages and colorful characters, and custom-made, highly themed decorations. Guests are loaned a tablet and a UV flashlight to solve puzzles. The tablet is used to interact with the world and track your progress, and it keeps track of your 120-minute time limit. As you explore, you’ll encounter statues of magical characters, who you can talk to using the tablet in front of them. They’ll offer quests you can complete, making each visit to Wizard Quest slightly different.
Compared to MagiQuest, WizardQuest is aimed at older children and adults, as very young children might have trouble with some of the puzzles and riddles. Neither attraction is scary, but Wizard Quest’s themed environments and character statues may spook the little ones. MagiQuest is more accommodating to young children, but wands, accessories, and costume pieces can get expensive quickly!
