Avila Beach is one of a string of 5 beach cities on the central coast of
California which cooperate to bring their activities and culture within
easy access of the adventurous traveler. The San Luis Bay Inn Resort is
located across the road from Avila Beach, 10 miles from San Luis Obispo,
and way up the Coast from LA to San Francisco. It is a glimpse of the
life style that the California Coast its famous for. The San Luis Bay Inn
at Avila Beach Resort is A sacred place of serenity and warm sunshine
in Chumash Indian lore Minutes from a natural hot spring spa Adjacent
to a world class golf course Steps from hiking trails in sycamore and
eucalyptus groves One mile from an historic old wooden wharf with end
of the world view restaurant and local seal colony
The Resort Concierge offers local wine tours, trips to Hearst Castle,
farmers markets and seasonal fairs in the 5 beach cities, and local
cultural attractions. A self-guided tour through the area could turn up a
visit with a beach full of elephant seals near Hearst Castle, a hike
along the headlands of the cataclysmic rock formations of Montana de Oro,
watching the sunset over the Pacific below, or taking in the Avila Beach
Blues Festival or the Strawberry Festival in charming Arroyo Grande where
City Hall steps are home to the towns free range chickens and Doc
Bursteins famous ice cream for the children.
Joan and I have used, repeatedly rented and exchanged our many timeshare
weeks on the water at Avila Beach since 9-11. We have adored our repeat
renters, some of them authors, celebrities, and high powered executives.
It has been a fun hobby. Having so many of them has allowed us to
exchange equally with places in Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, Vancouver, New
York, the Sundance Film Festival, and others (not without effort and
planning). We have really enjoyed the net annual cost per night of travel
as hotel rooms around us have been approaching $700/night for just
sleeping, while our slightly rising maintenance costs are still below
$250/night for the largest rooms which include full kitchens and the
further ability to stretch vacation dollars by eating in.
While nightly expense has edged up and all the real estate in Avila has
held and increased in value, the secondary market for timeshares has
retreated from when we began to accumulate. (if you are a film lover ask
me how to do Sundance cheaply)
We believe this is because the primary market approach is through
crush-selling techniques which eventually give most folks a used-car
taste for time shares in general. A lot of folks know someone who has
paid through the nose for a timeshare that couldnt be used enough or
gotten rid of. This is not that. This is the back door secondary market
of a usable and valuable week.
Avila Beach is an exception because the coastal commission wont let
developers build more timeshares here and the upscale area keeps rising
and attracting good people.
