Consumer Alert — Advisory XIII Timeshare Resale Scam

Published by the American Resort Development Association on July 27, 2016.

The American Resort Development Association (ARDA) and its Resort Owner’s Coalition (ARDAROC) are now aware of fraudulent activity by an individual using the name “Teddy Davis” to defraud timeshare owners. Further, “Davis” is using improper representation of Timeshares Only, a member of ARDA.

“Teddy Davis” is Not Affiliated with Timeshares Only, ARDA or ARDA-ROC

A man using the name “Teddy Davis” is contacting timeshare owners and claiming to be a representative of Timeshares Only. This is in attempt to get owners to pay upfront closing fees for the sale of their timeshare. “Davis” claims that he has “a buyer” showing interest in the owner’s timeshare. He continues that he requires money upfront to wire into his account in order to complete the transaction. He calls this up-front fee a “luxury tax” for closing on the sale of your timeshare. “Davis” has also been reported to use an email address that ends in “@timesharesonly3.com.” In his attempt to continue the scam, there might be other email addresses or names that he uses.

Timeshares Only is also aware of the situation. This type of “offer” is especially not a legitimate business practice of Timeshares Only. If you are currently working with Timeshares Only and there is an offer on your timeshare, we will never ask you as the seller to send money in advance in any event.o

Proceed with Caution

ARDA and ARDA-ROC caution all timeshare owners to be wary of such solicitations. If anyone contacts you claiming to be with Timeshares Only, ARDA urges you to contact the company directly to confirm. The number to contact Timeshares Only is 1-800-610-2734.

If you feel that you have been a part of a scam, contact your local authorities without delay to file a report, reach out to the state attorney general, and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. ARDA encourages owners to thoroughly research any company before doing business with them or paying any upfront fees.
