Mexico Travel Style Is Not 1 Size Fits All
Vacationers from all over the world find that Mexico delivers a bounty of options on places to go, things to do and sights to see. This expansive country to America's south extends from the U.S. border to Guatemala and Belize in the south. It is bound by the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean on the east and west, respectively. Considering the land mass and geography involved, it's little wonder so many find Mexico offers exactly what they want to do on vacation and more.
Visitors to Mexico will find it offers very distinct geographical regions. Northern Mexico, for example, is noted for its beautiful mountain ranges and desert landscapes. The central region is fabled for its colonial cities, while south Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula are famous for their Mayan ruins, beaches and warm oceanic breezes. The Pacific coast and the Baja region are noted for beaches, mountains and historic sites.
With so much to see and explore, it is hard for visitors to see it all on a single trip. Instead, many pick a region or style of vacation so they can see as much or as little as they desire. Some of the most popular things to do in Mexico include:
- Water sports: With bodies of water as diverse as the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and Pacific Ocean, it's little wonder that many travelers come to Mexico strictly for water play. The entire country is noted for its beaches, scuba diving opportunities, fishing and more. It is even possible to enjoy some serious whitewater rafting, surfing, kayaking and more. The Pacific side also offers some major whale watching action.
- Mountain climbing: Mexico is a favorite among mountain climbers. The areas around Veracruz, Toluca, Puebla and Valle De Bravo are some of the most trafficked. The country's most difficult peak is found at Pico de Orizaba, which rises more than 18,000 feet above sea level. For those who don't want to brave the peaks, the country also offers some fantastic hiking opportunities.
- Ecotourism: This is a huge draw in Mexico. Visitors here will find a total of 47 national parks, nine protection areas and 22 biosphere reserves. The sights ecotourists often take in include jungles, desert landscapes, oceanic lands and more. Some of the major stops on eco tours include Acapulco, Cancun, Cozumel, Chichen Itza and Mexico City.
- Historic sites: Mexico is a historic traveler's dream come true. From the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza to the Aztec city of Teotihuacan, an entire trip (or several) could easily be dedicated to visiting these sites. Some of the famous places to visit are found in Mexico City, Cozumel, Campeche, Tijuana and Pachuca.
- Other activities: Mexico is noted for its legendary nightlife, world-class golf courses, restaurants and more. Visitors here will also find lots of local flavor no matter where they go in the form of arts, crafts and music.
From the resorts along the coastal areas to the grit of the desert, Mexico offers something to appeal to just about any type of tourist imaginable. Offering upscale resorts and small country inns, Mexico vacations tend to fit any budget, as well.
