Costa Rica Delivers Tropical Paradise With A Laidback Flair
Costa Rica has not become a favorite American retirement enclave for nothing. This beautiful Latin American country is home to warm waters, beautiful beaches, tropical forests and mountain landscapes that are breathtaking. It is also noted for its incredibly friendly populace that has a propensity to make visitors want to stay a while longer.
Although not the largest country in Latin America, Costa Rica is still diverse enough to have several distinct tourism regions with their own special draws. They include:
- North Pacific Region: This region stretches from the Nicaraguan border to the port town of Puntarenas. It includes all of the Nicoya Peninsula. Here visitors will find beaches, active volcanoes, dry forests and lakes. It is home to many national parks, as well.
- Central Pacific Region: This region starts at Puntarenas and goes south to the start of the Baru River. Here visitors will find beaches, coastal villages and plenty of warm waters. It is home to Carara National Park and a bounty of animal inhabitants. Those who visit here are likely to see scarlet macaws and even large American crocodiles.
- South Pacific Region: Encompassing the southwestern coast of the country and the area south to Panama, this region is home to the Talamanca Mountain Range, Corcovado National Park, Chirripo National Park and Drake Bay. It is also home to more than 370 bird species, about 140 different types of mammals and plenty of fish, reptiles and more.
- Northern Region: This region covers almost the entire border with Nicaragua and includes a few other areas, as well. It is home to the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, the Arenal Volcano and its famous cloud forests and the Tilaran mountain range. It is on the Caribbean side of the famous range.
- Moneverde: This region is found within the Tilaran mountains and includes views of the Gulf of Nicoya and the famous Arenal Volcano. It is known for its small towns, forested areas and incredible views. It also includes the Cloud Forest reserve.
- San Jose: This region is home to the country's capital city and several other major destinations. It is known for its centralized location and its bustling cities and beautiful views. San Jose is home to many restaurants, stores, museums, galleries and more.
- Other regions: The country is also home to a few other tourist regions. Here visitors will find some of the same tropical landscapes and wondrous sites. Activities throughout the country range from mountain climbing and volcano exploring to swimming, surfing, fishing and more.
Visitors who come to Costa Rica generally come for the tropical breezes and the beautiful mountains and forests. The region is toured by many on foot, horseback and in guided bus and car tours, as well. From its volcanic craters to its national parks, casinos and more, there is something for everyone here. In addition to its natural beauty, Costa Rica is home to many historic sites, nightclubs, theaters and more.
Home to thousands of transplanted Americans, Costa Rica is considered a paradise by many. Offering a warm tropical climate and lots of rich regional history, it is favored by those who want to see and do something different.
